Love kippers (proper kippers from a fish mongers always taste better than the suppermarket crap), grilled then smothered in butter, bit of bread on the side to mop up all the juices after. Cons - smell and the bones.

I haven't eaten liver or corned beef since the early 80's, a couple of foods my mother would serve that are best forgotten

The best way to eat liver is to flash fry it over a high heat in butter and garlic for no more than 2 minutes

I haven't had liver since my mum used to cook it until it was like eating a flavoured bit of tough leather through the late 70's and early 80's!
I know I should reintroduce myself to it, but i just don't know what actual texture is best as it will be a once chance occurrence......

That a different kettle of smoked fish. English mustard and wasabi are a marriage made in Kyoto.

Smoked Haddock from Billinsgate after an early morning session in the CAXTON when I was on LU. I ate a bucket of roll mops after a skin full and had a bilious attack in the afternoon and was cuddling the toilet

By the way, smoked haddock is superb for fishcakes. Keep em simple and put a poached egg on top.

Exactly, I might even go and get some smoked fish for the weekend just because of this thread.
Although I'm sorely tempted to make a liver and bacon casserole instead now.

Thats a dinner for a champion. The only thing is, for me the egg has to be poached. But a decent poached egg on a smoked fish is a gift from god.

CRASTER sticks in my mind for two things - brilliant kippers, and being the last place I've visited with a cafe that refused to sell you coffee in the afternoon. MORNING coffee, AFTERNOON tea was the rule.
Was last century, though. You can have coffee anytime they're open now.
